چکیده

Densities of the root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita (Kofoid and White) Chitwood, were compared following summer crops of tropical corn (Zea mays L.) and sorghum (Sorghum bicolorL.) at several locations in north Florida. Densities of M. incognita remained low soil) following the sorghum cultivars DeKalb FS25E and DeKalh BR64 and the sorghum sudangrass (S. sudanense [Piper] Stapf) hybrid DeKalb SX-17, and were lower than population densities following any of the corn cultivars tested. Results were consistent, regardless of location, planting date, or tillage practices. Densities of M. incognita following the sorghum cultivar Asgrow Chaparral were not consistently lower than those following corn. Sorghum can be an effective rotation crop for keeping M . incognifa populations low, but cultivar choice is critical.

Root-knot Nematode Management in Dryland Taro with Tropical Cover Crops.

Twenty-two cover crops were evaluated for their ability to reduce damage by root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne javanica, to taro, Colocastia esculenta, in a tropical cropping system. Cover crops were grown and incorporated into the soil before taro was planted. Barley, greenpanic, glycine, marigold, sesame, sunn hemp, and sorghum x sudangrass DeKalb ST6E were poor or nonhosts to the nematode as me...

Population Densities of Plant-Parasitic Nematodes in Multiple-Cropping and Tillage Systems

Hairy vetch (Vicia sativa L.) succeeded by corn (Zea mays L.)or grain sorghum (Sorghumbicolor L. Moench) were seeded insplit plots randomized within whole plots of no-tillage versus conventional tillage over four growing seasons (1980-83). The vetch-corn cropping system increased the density of Meloidogyne incognita 2.9 X more than the vetch-grain sorghum cropping system. I n contrast, the vetc...

Rotations of soybean with tropical corn and sorghum for the management of nematodes.

The relative efficacy of rotations of soybean with sorghum and tropical corn for nematode management was studied for 2 years in a field infested with root-knot (Meloidogyne arenaria) and soybean cyst (Heterodera glycines, race 14) nematodes. Corn, sorghum, and soybean cv. Kirby were planted in 1989, and in 1990 the same areas were planted with seven soybean cultivars with and without at-plant a...

Comparison of nematode population densities on six summer crops at seven sites in north Florida.

Densities of plant-parasitic nematodes were compared on six crops grown for forage during the summer of 1991 at seven sites in north central Florida. The cropping treatments were 'Howard' soybean (Glycine max), 'Deltapine 105' soybean, velvetbean (Mucuna deeringiana), 'California Blackeye #5' cowpea (Vigna unguiculata), 'Pioneer 3098' tropical corn (Zea mays), and 'Asgrow Chaparral' sorghum (So...

Effect of Long-term Rotation and Tillage Programs on Plant-parasitic Nematodes

Effects of tillage and crop rotation o n nematode densities in tropical corn (Zea mays L. Pioneer Brand X304C) were determined in each of three seasons (1990-1992) in north Florida. Treatments in the factorial experiment consisted of conventional or n o tillage and rotation with sorghum (Sorghum bicolor [L.] Moench) or soybean (G/ycine max [L.] Merr.). Tillage and rotation treatments were maint...
